On location in Israel with Every Second Counts
As the snow lay heavy over Southern England Team ESC jetted off to sunny Tel Aviv, Israel to shoot their SS18 Empowered Moments collection.
@everysecondcounts had found an absolute gem of a location within a park in central TA. With whitewashed pyramid, giant steps, obilisk and dome features we were salivating at getting to shoot on location for two days in the crisp Mediterranean sunshine.
The perfect shoot formula, if one exists, looks something like this; killer location, killer weather conditions, killer athletes/models. We had all three in abundance. The team consisted of a GB athlete, world leading freerunner, influential London PT and two Israeli male models/athletes who were the kind of men to make you feel vastly inferior. Fortunately I was the one wielding the camera, alongside ace DoP Scott Hutchins, so felt good about myself and was just glad for once to not be the one having to get my top off during the shoot...
Ably assisted by Matt Lloyd, I'd brought in the Nikon D5 as I knew capturing split second moments was order of the day here. We shot using natural light with some reflecting, so freezing movement was about 300% easier than your average UK shoot. At 20fps the D5 sounded like a machine gun and I almost felt sorry for Matt having to process the files into Capture, but then I remembered I'd brought him out to Israel in December.
Watching these guys, especially Netti and Katie, doing their thing was mesmerising. When you don't even have to suggest movements or actions because the athletes are throwing ideas up left right and centre, you find a sweet spot where you just focus on capturing the moment.
We shot sunrise, sunset, midday - the joy of mid winter light. The atmosphere in the park changed throughout the day but Sally of ESC wanted to go with the natural feel and atmosphere of the location so our shot count was one of the highest I've seen in recent years.
It's a nice feeling to wrap safe in the knowledge that you've nailed it. Such a pleasure to shoot with an exciting British brand, a great team and in a new country. Scott created a beautiful short which sits on https://www.everysecondcounts.co.uk/ and the images are live on their channels.
